The Event

Ill Angels Only is an annual international horror film festival based in New York City. As the horrors of real life pile up around us, Ill Angels Only provides an evening of relief in the form of fake blood, screams mixed with laughter, and connections between filmmakers. In the spirit of Poe's "Dream-land," we define horror broadly as a genre taking place "where dwell the Ghouls" as well as a genre of "forms that no [one] can discover." We select films that are spooky, terrifying, weird, eerie, gory, and funny. We welcome experimental as well as traditional approaches to filmmaking, and we focus on nurturing low-budget and new filmmakers. Each year, we offer a livestream component as part of our commitment to accessibility and COVID safety, but also to connect filmmakers and viewers internationally. Since 2021, the festival also includes an in-person, outdoor, and socially-distant screening.
